Beyond the Vote: Humanizing Policy Through Our Public Voice
For the second consecutive year, on May 2026, Protocol Haus had the privilege of being the only speaker invited to return to the Annual Summit of the Bay Area Legislators and Elected Officials (BALEO) Association, hosted in Napa Valley.
This year, the workshop focused on communications & AI with the presentation: “Beyond the Vote: Humanizing Policy Through Our Public Voice,” speaking about the human side of public leadership: how the way we communicate can make policy more accessible, relatable, and meaningful to the communities we serve.
One of the most rewarding parts of the conversation was hearing personal stories about the impact of policy and legislative work, not only on constituents and communities, but also on the elected officials who dedicate themselves to public service. These stories reminded us that behind every policy, vote, and legislative decision are real people, real experiences, and real consequences.
As leaders serving in the heart of the Bay Area, we also explored how Artificial Intelligence can support, not replace, human connection. We used AI tools to help us communicate more effectively and thoughtfully, while remembering an important principle:
We may use artificial intelligence, but we are the real intelligence.
Beyond our daily responsibilities, public service offers something greater: the opportunity to create human connections and community impact that can remain long after a policy is passed or a meeting ends.
